Lidköping got its chairter on 21 Julie 1446, an thus qualifees as ane o the nou defunct Ceeties o Swaden. The ceety airms are amaist as auld. It is disputed if it depicts an actual bishop, but wis in the 20t century decidit tae be a depiction o the bishop Saunt Nicholas.

In 1672 the foondations were laid, an the new ceety grew rather quickly. In 1683, baith sides o the ceety Lidköping wur declared unifee'd bi the croun, who reclaimit possession o them baith an aw.

The auld toun burned doun in 1849, an muckle pairt o the new toun wur damagit an aw. Follaein the fire, baith touns wur rebuilt accordin tae a check pattern.
