Elche (Spaingie: [ˈeltʃe]) or Elx (Valencian: [ˈɛʎtʃ]) is a ceety locatit in the comarca o Baix Vinalopó, in the province o Alicante which, in turn, is a pairt o the Valencie Commonty, Spain. Accordin tae the 2008 census, Elche haes a population o some 228,300 inhabitants (cried il·licitans in Valencie an ilicitanos in Spaingie), rankin as the third maist populatit ceety in the Valencie (efter Valencia an Alicante) an the 20t lairgest Spaingie ceety.

Pairt o the municipality is coastal but the main ceety is some 11 km (6.8 mile) frae the Mediterranean Sea. A sma creek cried Vinalopó flows through the ceety splittin it in twa pairts.
