The baund wes foundit in 1992 unner the name Scum, oreeginally playin in a goregrind style, but suin chynged tae a mair melodic daith metal style, wi leerics taen frae Norse Meethology. Aboot this time they chynged their name tae Amon Amarth, taen frae the Sindarian leid cleckit bi Tolkien, meanin Ben Weird (tho in his warks its mair aften kent as Oroduin, or Mount Doom).

Mony fowk cries thaim "Viking Metal", tho the baund thaimsels dinna gree wi this - as lilter Johan Hegg says:

We play Daith Metal. We scrieve aboot Vikings sae therefor some refers tae us as Viking Metal, but I dinna hae ony idea whit thon is.
