ପାରୋମୋମାଇସିନ (ଇଂରାଜୀ ଭାଷାରେ Paromomycin) ଏକ ଆଣ୍ଟିବାୟୋଟିକ (antibiotic) ଯାହା ଆମିବାୟାସିସ (amebiasis), ଜିଆଡିଆସିସ, ଲିସମାନିଆସିସ ଓ ଟେପ‌ୱର୍ମ (tapeworm infection) ଇତ୍ୟାଦି ସଂକ୍ରମଣରେ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହୃତ ହୁଏ । ଗର୍ଭାବସ୍ଥାରେ ଆମିବାୟାସିସ ଓ ଜିଆର୍ଡ଼ିଆସିସ ଥଲେ ଏହା ପ୍ରଥମ ଧାଡ଼ିର ଚିକିତ୍ସା ରୂପେ ଦିଆଯାଏ । ଅନ୍ୟଥା ଏହା ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟ ଧାଡ଼ିର ବିକଳ୍ପ ଔଷଧ । ଏହା ପାଟିରେ ଦିଆଯାଏ, ଚର୍ମରେ ଲଗାଯାଏ ଓ ମାଂସପେଶୀରେ ଇଞ୍ଜେକସନ ଆକାରରେ ଦିଆଯାଏ ।^[୧]

ପାରୋମୋମାଇସିନ ପାଟିରେ ନେଉଥିଲେ ସାଧାରଣ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟାରେ ଅରୁଚି, ବାନ୍ତି, ପେଟ ଯନ୍ତ୍ରଣା ଓ ତରଳ ଝାଡ଼ା ହୋଇପାରେ । ଚର୍ମରେ ଲଗାଉଥିଲେ ପ୍ରତିକ୍ରିୟାରେ ଗଲୁ, ଲାଲ ଦେଖାଯିବା ଓ ଫୋଟକା ଆଦି ଦେଖାଯାଏ । ଇଞ୍ଜେକସନ ଆକାରରେ ନେଉଥିଲେ ଜ୍ୱର, ଯକୃତ ସମସ୍ୟା ଓ ଶ୍ରବଣହାନୀ (hearing loss) ହୋଇପାରେ ।^[୧] ସ୍ତନ୍ୟପାନ ସମୟରେ ଏହା ନିରାପଦ ଜଣାଯାଏ ।^[୪] ପାରୋମୋମାଇସିନ ଏକ ଆମିନୋଗ୍ଲାଇକୋସାଇଡ ଶ୍ରେଣୀର ଔଷଧ ଓ ବ୍ୟାକ୍ଟେରିଆର ପ୍ରୋଟିନ ତିଆରି ଅବରୋଧ କରି ତାକୁ ମାରିଦିଏ ।^[୧]

ସନ ୧୯୫୦ରେ ସ୍ଟ୍ରେପ୍ଟୋମାଇସେସ କ୍ରେସ୍ଟୋମ୍ୟୁସେଟିକସରୁ ପାରୋମୋମାଇସିନ ଆବିଷ୍କୃତ ହୋଇଥିଲା ଓ ୧୯୬୦ରେ ଡାକ୍ତରୀ ବ୍ୟବ‌ହାର କରାଗଲା । ^[୨]^[୪] ଏହାର ନାମ ବିଶ୍ୱ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସଂଗଠନର ଅତ୍ୟାବଶ୍ୟକୀୟ ଔଷଧ ଚିଠାରେ ଅଛି ଯାହା ମୌଳିକ ସ୍ୱାସ୍ଥ୍ୟ ସିସ୍ଟମ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଅତି ମହତ୍ତ୍ୱପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ।^[୫] ଏହା ଜେନେରିକ ଔଷଧ ନାମରେ ଉପଲବ୍‌ଧ ହୁଏ ।^[୬] ଭାରତରେ ୨୦୦୭ରେ ଏହାର ଇଞ୍ଜେକସନ କୋର୍ଷର ମୁଲ୍ୟ ପ୍ରାୟ ୪.୧୯ରୁ ୮.୩୮ ପାଉଣ୍ଡ ଥିଲା ।^[୬]
