The Costa Book Awards er blant de mest prestisjefulle litterære priser i Storbritannia. Fra 1971 til 2006 gikk prisene under navnet Whitbread Awards, men skiftet til Costa Book Awards da Costa Coffee overtok som sponsor.^[1]

Whitbread-prisene gis for litterær kvalitet, men også til bøker som er underholdende lesning og som formidler gleden ved lesning til et størst mulig publikum.

Priskategoriene har variert noe over tid. Ved den første utdelingen i 1971 ble det utdelt priser for beste roman, beste biografi og beste diktsamling. I 2005 ble det i tillegg til de foran nevnte utdelt priser i kategoriene årets bok, beste roman skrevet av en debutant og beste barnebok.
