En stadial er en ekstra kald periode i en istid (glasial). Milde perioder kalles interstadialer.

Stadialene fra siste istid (Weichsel) er best kjent. Stadialer fra denne istiden er Herning-stadialen for 115 000–105 000 år siden (isotoptrinn 5d), Rederstall-stadialen for 93 000–85 000 år siden (isotoptrinn 5b) og Schalkholz-stadialen for 71 000–57 000 år siden (isotoptrinn 4). Siste istids maksimum var for omtrent 20 000 år siden. Helt på slutten av istiden kom tre korte stadialer, eldste dryas, eldre dryas og yngre dryas.
