St. john's water dog er en nå utdødd hundetype som opprinnelig fantes (og trolig oppsto) på Newfoundland mot slutten av 1700-tallet. Typen regnes som en viktig progenitor for flere hunderaser, blant annet gruppen med retrievere, landseer og newfoundlandshund. Typen var nært knyttet til sine egenskaper som vannhund.
Man har antatt at denne hunden var en tilfeldig blanding av irske, engelske og portugisiske arbeidshunder (vannhunder/jakthunder) som kom til Amerika med emigranter på 1700-tallet. Trolig har blodslinjer fra både irsk- og portugisisk vannhund inngått. Typen må ha etablert seg der, men de siste hundene døde trolig ut på 1980-tallet.
