Sentertenning er når det er en tennhette sentrert i bakkant på en patron kontra randtenning som har integrert tennsats i kragen rundt bunnen på patronen. Dette er den absolutt vanligste formen for patroner i dag, og finnes på alt fra småkalibrede pistolpatroner til granatpatroner for maskinkanoner. De eneste patrontypen med en annen tennsatstype som er i alminnelig bruk i dag er randtenning, som brukes i ammunisjon for salonggevær- og pistoler (.22 Long- og Short rifle), da hylsebunnen er for liten til å ta tennhette.[1]
