«Hit the Lights» er det første sporet på Metallicas debutalbum Kill 'Em All. Det var også den første sangen James Hetfield og Lars Ulrich skrev da de startet bandet. Hetfield hadde allerede skrevet mesteparten av sangen i sitt gamle band Leather Charm, men fullførte den sammen med Ulrich. Sangen har blitt kjent for å være en av de aller første thrash metal-sangene til å bli skrevet, slått med noen måneder av Overkills «The Beast Within». Før Metallica ga ut Kill 'Em All var «Hit the Lights» med på 1982-utgaven av Metal Massacre, som var et samlealbum med ferske amerikanske metal-band. Sangen var også med på Metallica-demoen No Life 'Till Leather, som også er et av de få opptakene hvor Dave Mustaine spilte før han ble kastet ut av bandet.
