Frihetsgrad i statistikk er en metode for å finne antall parametre man kan variere fritt i en gitt modell. Dersom man oppgir dette antallet parametre, vil de resterende verdiene være gitt ut fra forholdet gitt ved sannsynlighetsfordelingen.

Frihetsgrader ved en hypotesetesting finnes ved følgende formel: (antall rader – 1) multiplisert med (antall kolonner – 1).

Eksempel:

  • En spillterning kan gi 6 forskjellige resultater og vil derfor ha en frihetsgrad på 5.
