Basile Bouchons vev fra 1725 utstilt i Musée des Arts et Métiers, Paris.

Basile Bouchon var en tekstilarbeidersilkesenteret i Lyon som oppfant en måte å kontrollere en vev ved hjelp av hullbånd i 1725.[1] Han var sønn av en orgelmaker. Bouchon delvis automatiserte den kjedelige prosessen med å sette opp en vev hvor en operator løfter trådene med snorer.

Denne utviklingen av arbeidsprosessen er ansett å være den første industrielle bruken av en halvautomatisk maskin.
