Baclayon er en kommune i provinsen Bohol på Filippinene. Under folketellingen i 2000 kom man til et befolkningstall på 22 461.[2]
Historie
[rediger | rediger kilde]Baclayon var den første municipio etablert av spanjolene på Bohol. Den omfattet opprinnelig også de områder som i dag er Alburquerque, Balilihan, Corella og Sikatuna. Det opprinnelige navnet var Bacayan, med rot i ordet bacay, som betyr «omvei» - det var en klippe her rundt en klippe.
I 1595 ankom to prester fra jesuittordenen, Juan de Torres og Gabriel Sanchez, som misjonærer til Bohol. Med lokal hjelp fikk de bygd en steinkirke som anses som en av Filippinenes eldste steinkirker. Dette ble utgangspunktet for landsbyen. I 1600 raidet moroene bosettingen, og jesuittene flyttet da sin residencia til Loboc.[3][4]
I 1717 fikk Baclayon status som katolsk menighet. I 1742 ble Tagbilaran utskilt fra Baclayon, deretter Alburquerque i 1868, Balilihan i 1828, og Corella i 1884.[3]
