Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove is een gemeente (town) in de Canadese provincie Newfoundland en Labrador, in het zuidoosten van het eiland Newfoundland. De gemeente ligt aan Conception Bay in het oosten van het schiereiland Bay de Verde.
Geschiedenis
[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]De aan elkaar aansluitende kustdorpen Small Point, Adam's Cove, Blackhead, Broad Cove en Kingston waren oorspronkelijk gemeentevrij gebied. Vanaf het jaar 1972 vormden ze tezamen een gemeente met het statuut van local improvement district (LID).[1] De gemeente Small Point-Kingston-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adams Cove bestond in die hoedanigheid slechts vijf jaar, aangezien het dorp Kingston zich met ingang op 7 januari 1977 afscheurde en opnieuw gemeentevrij werd.[2] De overblijvende vier dorpen gingen daarop als LID verder onder de naam Small Point-Broad Cove-Blackhead-Adams Cove.[3]
In 1980 werden LID's op basis van The Municipalities Act als bestuursvorm afgeschaft, waarop de gemeente automatisch een town werd.[1][4] In 1994 veranderde de naam van de gemeente opnieuw, ditmaal naar de huidige naam Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove.[3]
Demografie
[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]Demografisch gezien kende Small Point-Adam's Cove-Blackhead-Broad Cove, net zoals de meeste kleine dorpen op Newfoundland, de voorbije decennia een dalende trend. Tussen 1991 en 2021 daalde de bevolkingsomvang van 505 naar 414. Dat komt neer op een daling van 91 inwoners (-18,0%) in dertig jaar tijd.
