Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison (11 februari 1847 – 18 oktober 1931) was een Amerikaanse uitvinder en zakenman die zijn fortuin maakte door uitvindingen op te kopen en de patenten op zijn eigen naam vast te leggen. Als deze succesvol bleken, perfectioneerde hij ze en nam ze in productie. Edison is nog steeds recordhouder voor het grootste aantal patenten toegekend aan 1 persoon (meer dan 1000). De gloeilamp en de fonograaf (1877) zijn twee van zijn bekendste producten. Hij liet ook veel onderzoek doen op het gebied van de telegrafie. In 1883 ontdekten onderzoekers het naar hem genoemde Edisoneffect, een ontdekking die van belang was voor de ontwikkeling van de elektronenbuizen. (Lees verder)
