Limau purut (Jawi: لیماو ڤوروت; nama saintifik: C. hystrix) adalah sejenis tumbuhan sitrus yang bertaburan asal di kawasan-kawasan tropika Asia Tenggara dan selatan China,[3][4] ia dikenali kerana permukaan buah limau ia yang kasar berkutil bintil atau "purut".[5]

Ia sering kali digunakan dalam masakan-masakan dan perubatan tradisi serata Asia Tenggara, minyak pati buah ini dijadikan bahan membuat minyak wangi.[6]

Tumbuhannya berbentuk pohon kecil dengan tinggi antara 2-12 meter dengan batang-batang kecil rendah yang membengkok atau bersudut manakala setiap rantingnya berduri tajam.[7] Daun muncul setangkai setiap helai[8] berbentuk angka lapan dengan warna hijau gelap yang berkilau licin apabila matang; ia mengeluarkan aroma harum apabila digosok mahupun dikerunyuk.[7]

Buah yang dihasilkan kecil dengan diameter tidak melebihi 2 sm, dengan kulit tebal dengan permukaan kasar "purut".[7]

Dalam masakan

Daun-daun limau purut amat penting dalam masakan-masakan Thailand (seperti nam phrik dan tom yam),[9][10] Kemboja,[11] Nusantara termasuk Malaysia dan Indonesia (terutamanya dalam kalangan masyarakat Jawa dan Bali) dan Myanmar.[12]

Kulit buah limau purut dijadikan antara rempah utama dalam kari Thai.[9]


Manfaat lain

Buah limau purut boleh digosok mencuci rambut hingga bersih dan licin[10] serta mampu merawat kelemumur.[13]

Daun-daun ia juga boleh digunakan sebagai penghilang bau kuat baik pada badan semasa mandi mahupun menyegarkan udara bilik.[13]
