Balai cerap ialah lokasi atau bangunan yang digunakan untuk memerhati atau mencerap peristiwa cakerawala atau daratan. Ilmu falak, kaji iklim/cuaca, geofizik, oseanografi dan volkanologi adalah antara beberapa contoh disiplin di mana balai cerap ini digunakan. Dalam sejarah, balai cerap boleh terdiri daripada sekstan astronomi (untuk mengukur jarak di antara bintang) atau Stonehenge (yang mempunyai beberapa penjajaran pada fenomena astronomi).
