ഇന്ത്യയിലെ വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ സംസ്ഥാനമായ മണിപ്പൂരിലെ ഔദ്യോഗികഭാഷയാണ് മെയ്ടെയ് ലോൾ എന്നപേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന മണിപ്പൂരി ഭാഷ ആസാം, ത്രിപുര, ബംഗ്ലാദേശ്, ബർമ്മ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലും സംസാരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു [3]. 1992-ൽ ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭരണഘടനയുടെ എട്ടാം പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയ മണിപ്പൂരി, ഒരു സിനോ-ടിബെറ്റൻ കുടുംബത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട ഭാഷയാണ്. .
ലിപി
[തിരുത്തുക]11-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുതൽ 18-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ട് വരെ മെയ്ടെയ് മയേക് എന്ന് ലിപി ഉപയോഗിച്ചായിരുന്നു മണിപ്പൂരി എഴുതിയിരുന്നത്. ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഭരണ കാലത്താണ് മണിപ്പൂരി എഴുതാനായി ബംഗാളി ലിപി(കിഴക്കൻ നാഗരി ലിപി) ഉപയോഗിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയത്.
