ഖത്തറിന്റെ തലസ്ഥാനവും പ്രധാന നഗരിയുമാണ്‌ ദോഹ (അറബി: الدوحة, അദ്‌-ദോഹ, പദാർത്ഥം: "വലിയ മരം"). അൽ ദോഹ നഗരസഭയിലാണ്‌ ദോഹ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്‌, രാജ്യത്തെ പ്രഥമ നഗരസഭയായി (ബലദിയ) ഇത്‌ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഖത്തറിന്റെ ഭരണ സിരാകേന്ദ്രമായ അമീരി ദിവാൻ, വിവിധ മന്ത്രാലയങ്ങൾ, പൊതു-കാര്യ സ്ഥാപങ്ങൾ, സർക്കാർ/അർദ്ധ-സർക്കാർ/സ്വകാര്യ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെയും കാര്യാലയങ്ങൾ, പ്രധാന സൂഖുകൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്‌ ഈ നഗരസഭയിലാകുന്നു. കോർണീഷ്‌ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കടൽ തീരവും, തീരത്തോട്‌ ചേർന്നു നിൽക്കുന്ന കെട്ടിട സമുച്ചയങ്ങളും, അൽ നകീൽ ദ്വീപും (പാം ട്രീ ഐലന്റ്‌ എന്നും ഇതറിയപ്പെടുന്നു), പുൽതകിടികളും കളിസ്ഥലങ്ങളും ഈന്തപ്പനകൾ നട്ടുവളർത്തിയതുമായ അൽ റുമൈല ഉദ്യാനവും (മുൻപ്‌ അൽ ബിദ ഉദ്യാനം എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു) ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങളാണ്‌. ഖത്തറിലെ നല്ലൊരു ശതമാനം ജനങ്ങളും ദോഹയിലും ദോഹയുടെ പ്രാന്തപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും ജീവിക്കുന്നു. ഇതിൽ കൂടുതലും ഇന്ത്യ, പാകിസ്താൻ, ബംഗ്ലാദേശ്‌, ഫിലിപ്പീൻസ്‌ നേപ്പാൾ, ശ്രീലങ്ക തുടങ്ങിയ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പൗരന്മാരാണ്‌.
ഖത്തർ യൂണിവേഴ്‌സിറ്റിയും HEC Paris ബിസിനസ് സ്‌കൂളിന്റെ കാമ്പസും ഈ നഗരത്തിലുണ്ട്.
