ഒരു ഇന്ത്യൻ നെഫ്രോളജിസ്റ്റും ന്യൂഡൽഹിയിലെ സർ ഗംഗാ റാം ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിലെ നെഫ്രോളജി വിഭാഗം ചെയർമാനുമാണ് ഡി.എസ്. റാണ[1] വൃക്കസംബന്ധമായ ട്രാൻസ്പ്ലാൻറ് നടപടിക്രമങ്ങളിൽ പ്രാവീണ്യം നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.[2][3] ഹിമാചൽ പ്രദേശിലെ ദസ്മലിൽ ജനിച്ച[4] അദ്ദേഹം മെഡിക്കൽ ബിരുദം ഷിംലയിലെ ഇന്ദിരാഗാന്ധി മെഡിക്കൽ കോളേജിൽ ചെയ്തതിനുശേഷം ക്ലിനിക്കൽ നെഫ്രോളജിയിൽ വിപുലമായ പരിശീലനം ചണ്ഡീഗഡിലെ മെഡിക്കൽ എഡ്യുക്കേഷൻ ആൻഡ് റിസർച്ച് ഗ്രാജുവേറ്റ് ഇൻസ്റ്റിറ്റ്യൂട്ടിൽ ചെയ്തു.[5] അദ്ദേഹം ഒരു അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര പണ്ഡിതനാണ്. ഒഹായോയിലെ ക്ലീവ്‌ലാന്റ് ക്ലിനിക്കിലെ ഇന്റർനാഷണൽ സ്കോളറായ[6] അദ്ദേഹം സർ ഗംഗാറാം ആശുപത്രിയിലെ ബോർഡ് ഓഫ് മാനേജ്മെന്റ് അംഗമാണ്. [7]അദ്ദേഹം സ്ഥാപിച്ച പാർവതി എഡ്യൂക്കേഷൻ ആന്റ് ഹെൽത്ത് സൊസൈറ്റി എന്ന സംഘടന ഗ്രാമീണ ദരിദ്രർക്കായി സ്ഥാപിച്ച 5 കിടക്കകളുള്ള ഒരു ചെറിയ ആശുപത്രി തന്റെ ജന്മനാടായ ദാസ്മലിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രത്തിന് നൽകിയ സംഭാവനകൾക്ക് 2009 ൽ ഏറ്റവും ഉയർന്ന നാലാമത്തെ സിവിലിയൻ ബഹുമതിയായ പദ്മശ്രീ ഇന്ത്യൻ സർക്കാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് നൽകി.[8] പദ്മശ്രീ അവാർഡ് ലഭിച്ച ആദ്യത്തെ ഹിമാചൽപ്രദേശ് നിവാസിയാണ് അദ്ദേഹം.
