ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലെ പ്ലിയോസീൻ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ നിലനിന്നിരുന്ന ഒരു തരം മാർസുപിയലാണ് മാക്രോപസ് പാൻ. ക്വീൻസ്‌ലാന്റ് മ്യൂസിയത്തിൽ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്ന ഫോസിൽ വസ്തുക്കളുടെ രചയിതാവിന്റെ പരിശോധനയിൽ നിന്ന് 1895 ൽ ചാൾസ് ഡബ്ല്യു. ഡി വിസ് ആണ് ആദ്യത്തെ വിവരണം നൽകിയത്[2].ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലുടനീളം നിരവധി സൈറ്റുകളിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഫോസിലുകളിൽ നിന്ന് മാത്രമാണ് ഇന്ന് ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് വിവരങ്ങൾ ലഭിക്കുക അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ആധുനിക ചാര കങ്കാരു, പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ മക്രോപസ് ഫുളിജിനൊസസ്കിഴക്കൻ മക്രോപസ് ജൈജാന്റസ് [3] ,എന്നിവ ഈ ഇനത്തിന്റെ വിഭാഗത്തിലുൾപ്പെട്ടവരായി അംഗീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്, ആദ്യം ഡോസൺ & ഫ്ലന്നറി [4]. എന്നിവർ മക്രോപസ് (മക്രോപസ്) എന്ന ഉപജനുസ്സിൽ ആണ് ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. പടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഓസ്‌ട്രേലിയയിലെ ഒരു സൈറ്റിനായി പേരിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ക്വാൺബൺ പ്രാദേശിക ജന്തുജാലങ്ങളുടെ ഫോസിൽ മാതൃകകളും ഈ ഇനമായി തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു. ടൈപ്പ് സ്പെസിമെൻസിന്റെ ഉത്ഭവം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല, എന്നിരുന്നാലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു തെളിവുമായി മെറ്റീരിയലുമായി താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്തുന്നതിനായി ക്വീൻസ്‌ലാന്റിലെ ചിൻചില്ലയിൽ ഖനനം നടത്തിയതായി അറിയുന്നു. [5] ഏതൊരു ആധുനിക ജീവിവർഗത്തേക്കാളും വലിയ മാക്രോപോഡായ,ഇതിനു നിൽക്കുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിൽ രണ്ട് മീറ്ററിലധികം ഉയരംവരും. [6]
