ഈ ചിത്രം പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് പൗളിന് 28 വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. അവർ വളരെ ബുദ്ധിയുള്ളവളും അവരുടെ സൗന്ദര്യത്തിനും, മതപരമായും പരക്കെ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നെങ്കിലും വളരെയധികം ലജ്ജാവതിയും ആയിരുന്നു. ഈ ചിത്രം അവരുടെ വിഷാദരോഗത്തെ എടുത്തുകാണിക്കുന്നു. പൗളിന് 30-ാമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ ക്ഷയരോഗം ബാധിക്കുകയും 35-ആമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ മരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. 1901 വരെ ആൽബർട്ട് ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും അയാൾ ഹൃദയം തകർന്ന് മറ്റൊരു വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചില്ല.[1]
