കോമൺ കാമിലിയ,[1], ജാപ്പനീസ് കാമിലിയ, ടുബാക്കി എന്നീപേരുകളിലറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കാമിലിയ ജാപോനിക (Camellia japonica) ജപ്പാനിലെ കാമിലിയ ജനുസ്സിലെ ഏറ്റവും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ഇനം ആണ്. ലാ പെപ്പർമിൻറ്,[2] റോസ് ഓഫ് വിന്റർ [3]എന്നീ പേരുകളിലും വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ സ്പീഷീസ് തീയേസീ കുടംബത്തിൽപ്പെട്ടതും അലബാമയിലെ ഔദ്യോഗിക സംസ്ഥാന പുഷ്പവുമാണ്. വിവിധയിനം നിറങ്ങളിൽ പൂക്കളുള്ള കാമിലിയ ജാപോനികയുടെ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് കൾട്ടിവറുകൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്.
ചൈനയിലെ വനപ്രദേശത്ത് പ്രധാന ഭൂപ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും (ഷാൻഡോംഗ്, കിഴക്ക് സെയ്ജിയാങ്ങ്) തായ്വാൻ, തെക്കൻ കൊറിയ, തെക്കൻ ജപ്പാൻ എന്നീ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും ഈ സ്പീഷീസ് കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. [4] ഇത് 300-1,100 മീറ്റർ (980-3,610 അടി) ഉയരത്തിൽ വനങ്ങളിൽ വളരുന്നു.[5]
