[5] തലവേദന, പനി, കൺഫ്യൂഷൻ, കഠിനമായ കഴുത്ത് വേദന, ഛർദ്ദി എന്നീ ലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ രോഗത്തിന്റെ തീവ്രതയനുസരിച്ച് രോഗിയിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. സംസാരിക്കുന്നതിൽ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ട്, അമ്നീഷ്യ, കേൾവിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ രോഗം സങ്കീർണമായാൽ സംഭവിച്ചേക്കാം. ഹെർപ്പസ് സിംപ്ലക്സ് വൈറസ്, റാബിസ് വൈറസ്, ബാക്ടീരിയ, ഫംഗസ് അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പരാദങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയവ മൂലം തലച്ചോറിൽ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന അണുബാധയാണ് എൻസെഫലൈറ്റിസിന് കാരണമാകുന്നത്. [1] രോഗി നിരന്തരം കഴിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഏതെങ്കിലും മരുന്നുകളുടെയോ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ രോഗപ്രതിരോധശേഷിക്കായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന ചില മരുന്നുകളും ഈ രോഗാവസ്ഥയ്ക്ക് കാരണങ്ങളാണ്. [2]ചില കേസുകളുടെ കാരണം അജ്ഞാതമായി തന്നെ തുടരുന്നു. ദുർബലമായ രോഗപ്രതിരോധ ശേഷി അപകടസാധ്യത വർധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. രോഗനിർണയം സാധാരണയായി രോഗലക്ഷണങ്ങളെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയുള്ളതാണ്. രക്തപരിശോധന, മെഡിക്കൽ ഇമേജിംഗ്, സെറിബ്രോസ്പൈനൽ ദ്രാവകത്തിന്റെ പരിശോധന എന്നിവയിലൂടെയാണ് രോഗനിർണയം നടത്തുന്നത്.
വാക്സിനുകൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് ഈ രോഗത്തെ തടയാൻ കഴിയും. [5] ചികിത്സയിൽ ആൻറിവൈറൽ മരുന്നുകൾ ( അസൈക്ലോവിർ പോലുള്ളവ), ആന്റികൺ‌വൾസന്റുകൾ, കോർട്ടികോസ്റ്റീറോയിഡുകൾ എന്നിവയാണ് പ്രധാനമായി ഉൾപ്പെടാുത്തുന്നത്. [1] 2015 ൽ, എൻസെഫലൈറ്റിസ് 4.3 ദശലക്ഷം ആളുകളെ ബാധിച്ചതായി കണക്കാക്കുകയും, കൂടാതെ ലോകമെമ്പാടുമായി 150,000 മരണങ്ങൾക്ക് കാരണമാവുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്. [3] [4]
