ഒരു പ്രധാന ഈജിപ്ഷ്യൻ ദൈവമാണ് അമുൻ. അമോൻ, അമെൻ എന്നീ പേരുകളിലും ഇദ്ദേഹം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു (ഇംഗ്ലീഷ്: Amun also Amon, Amen; Greek Ἄμμων Ámmōn, Ἅμμων Hámmōn). പുരാതന സാമ്രാജ്യം മുതൽക്കേ അമുനിനെ തന്റെ പത്നിയായ അമുനെറ്റ് സഹിതം ആരാധിച്ചു വരുന്നു.[1] 11ആം രാജവംശത്തോടുകൂടി (c. 21st century BC) മോൺടുവിന് പകരമായി തീബ്സിന്റെ രക്ഷാദേവതയായി ഉയർന്നുവന്നു.
അഹ്മോസ് ഒന്നാമൻ (16th century BC) ഫറവോയുടെ ഭരണകാലത്ത് ഹൈക്സോസ് ജനതയ്ക്ക് എതിരെ തീബ്സിൽ അരങ്ങേറിയ വിപ്ലവത്തേതുടർന്ന് അമുൻ ദേവന്റെ ദേശീയ പ്രാധാന്യം വർദ്ധിച്ചു, സൂര്യ ദേവനായ റായുമായ് സംയോജിച്ച് അമുൻ-റാ അഥവാ അമുൻ-റെ എന്നൊരു സങ്കല്പവും പിന്നീടുണ്ടായി.
നവ സാമ്രാജ്യ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഈജിപ്ഷ്യൻ ദൈവസങ്കല്പത്തിൽ അമുൻ-റായ്ക്ക് സർവ്വപ്രധാനമായ സ്ഥാനമാണ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. (എന്നാൽ അഖ്നാതെൻ ഫറവോയുടെ കാലത്ത് ഈ സ്ഥിതി വത്യസ്ഥമായിരുന്നു). ദൈവങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവ് എന്ന സ്ഥാനവും അമുന്രായ്ക്ക് കൽപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അവാസ്തവികമായ ഏകദൈവ വിശ്വാസം പോലെയായിരുന്നു അത്. മറ്റു ദേവന്മാരെയെല്ലാം അമുൻ റായുടെ പ്രതിപുരുഷന്മാരായാണ് കരുതിയത്. പുരാതന ഈജിപ്തിൽ ഒസീരിസ്, അമുൻ-റായുമാണ് ഏറ്റവും അധികം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തപ്പെട്ട ഈജിപ്ഷ്യൻ ദൈവങ്ങൾ.
ഈജിപ്ഷ്യൻ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിലെത്തന്നെ പരമപ്രധാന ദൈവമായതിനാൽ, ഈജിപ്തിനു പുറത്തും അമുൻ റാ പരിചിതമായിരുന്നു. പുരാതന ഗ്രീസിലെ സിയൂസ് ദേവന് തത്തുല്യനായിരുന്നു ഈജിപ്റ്റിലെ അമുൻ റാ (സിയൂസ് അമോൻ).
