Epstaina—Bāras vīruss

Epstaina–Bāras vīruss (EBV), ko sauc arī par cilvēka herpesvīrusu 4 (HHV-4), ir viens no astoņiem zināmajiem herpesvīrusu grupas vīrusiem un viens no visbiežāk sastopamajiem cilvēku vīrusiem. Vīruss nosaukts pēc britu patologa un akadēmiķa Entonija Epstaina (Anthony Epstein, 1921–2024) un īru virusoloģes Ivonas Bāras (Yvonne Barr, 1932–2016), kuri kopīgi šo vīrusu atklāja un informāciju par to publicēja 1964. gadā.

Tas ir visvairāk pazīstams kā infekciozās mononukleozes (dziedzeru drudža) izraisītājs. To arī saista ar vairākām vēža formām, piemēram, Hodžkina limfomu, Bērkita limfomu, kuņģa vēzi, nazofaringālo karcinomu, un simptomiem, kas saistīti ar cilvēka imūndeficīta vīrusu (HIV), piemēram, matu leikoplakija un centrālās nervu sistēmas limfomas.[1][2] Ir pierādīts, ka inficēšanās ar EBV rada lielāku risku saslimt ar noteiktām autoimūnām slimībām,[3] jo īpaši dermatomiozītu, sistēmisko sarkano vilkēdi, reimatoīdo artrītu, Šēgrēna sindromu,[4][5] un multiplo sklerozi.[6] Domājams, ik gadu EBV izraisa aptuveni 200 000 vēža gadījumu.[7]
