Seleucidae

Imperium Seleucidarum (flavo colore indicatum) anno circiter 300 a.C.n.

Seleucidae (-arum m.) (Graece: Σελευκίδαι) fuerunt domus regnatrix Imperii Seleucidarum (312-63 a.C.n.). Nomen traxerunt a Seleuco, uno ex diadochis qui Alexandro Magno mortuo sibi maximam imperii eius partem adscivit.

Imperium Seleucidarum maius esse et a pluribus hostibus vexatum videtur quam ut omnes eius partes contineri poterant. Regibus in bella contra alia diadochorum imperia intentis complures regiones se a Seleucidarum imperio solvebant. In earum numero erat Parthia, qua anno 238 Arsaces Parnorum nomadum rex potitus est quamque regnum sui iuris fecit. Saeculo proximo Arsacidae, Arsacis suboles, e Parthia profecti omnes imperii Seleucidarum partes ab Euphrate ad orientem versas suae dicionis fecerunt.

Anno 64 a.C.n., Pompeius Philippo II, ultimo Seleucidarum regi, regnum abrogavit et Syriam, ultimam tanti imperii partem, in provinciam Imperii Romani redegit.

Nummus Seleuci I Nicatoris.
