Portus (-ūs, m.) est structura naturalis aut ab hominibus aedificata mari vel lacui aut flumini adiacens, quae naves accipit et tegit.

Primi portus magni fuerunt portus Wadi al-Jarf[1] apud Mare rubrum, portus urbis Quanchei Sinarum, portus Canopi Aegyptici, portus Athenensis Piraeus, portus Indicus Lothal, Ostia Antica antiquus portus urbis Romae.
