Opificium Alfredianum
Opificium Alfredianum, auro et gemmis ornatum, saeculo IX exeunte factum et anno 1693 iuxta North Petherton Somersetiae repertum, hodie in Museo Ashmoleano monstratur.
Opificium Anglosaxonice verbis Aelfred mec heht gewyrcan inscribitur, scil. "Alfredus me confici iussit"; censetur igitur a multis pro rege Wessexiae Alfredo creatum esse. Ratio huius opificii nescitur. Quidam, Thomasso Hearne sequentes, hoc unum eorum æstel esse credunt quae rex Alfredus misit (una cum libris a se et scriptorio suo compositis) ad abbatias et ecclesias, ut ipse in praefatione versionis Regulae pastoralis Gregorii Magni explicat. Quid autem sit æstel non satis liquet.
