Marcus Tullius Tiro erat servus M. Tulli Ciceronis et postea libertus, cui auctor ille nonnumquam epistulas misit et de quo aliis in epistulis scripsit.

Hieronymus fert Tironem natum fuisse anno 103 a.C.n. et mortuum 4 a.C.n.; sed Cicero Tironem "adulescentem" nominat in epistula 50 a.C.n. scripta. Anno 53 a.C.n. a Cicerone manumissus erat.

Ciceroni scriptori praecipue erat, quia Cicero (ut ait) "ipse nihil scribit". Cicerone mortuo, Tiro ipse dicitur auctor fuisse.
