Macropus robustus.

Macropus (-odis, m.) est una ex quattuor speciebus mammalium marsupialium familiae Macropodidarum. Macropus, notus propter productos pedes posteriores, in Australia habitat. Feminis est quandam peram anticam, appellatam marsupium, ubi portant filios.

Nomen macropodis, ex verbis Graecis, finxit Georgius Shaw, anno 1790. Duabus componitur partibus: μακρός makrós, id est longus; et πούς pús, id est pes. Dicitur ergo macropus, quia pedes longos habet. Lingua autem indigenarum, appellabatur "guguyimidjir", id est, "macropus cinereus". Hoc nomen Iacobus Cook, die 4 mensis Augusti anno 1770, publici iuris fecit ut "kanguru". Quo animal istud nonnullis linguis recentioribus notum est.

Macropodis catulus in sinu materno.

Macropodes rufi sunt plurimi, maximi, et clarissimi. In caterva vivunt et mares sunt rufo colore. Crura sunt magna, ex quo nomen "macropodida" venit. Facillime saliunt. Cauda magna potensque est, in qua etiam otiosus sedet. Usque ad 18 annos potest vivere. Licet eos venari quia multi sunt. Caro macra et gustu plena est.

Macropodes produnt catulos immaturissimos post gestationem brevem. Catuli diu in matris sinu tuti maturescunt.
