Ioannes Carolus Loth

Imago Caroli Loth (lithographia, 1818).

Ioannes Carolus Loth, vulgo Carlotto, (baptizatus die 8 Augusti 1632 Monaci; mortuus die 6 Octobris 1698 Venetiis) fuit pictor Germanus Baroci.

Ioannes Carolus Loth anno 1632 Monaci filius pictoris aulici Udalrici Loth natus est. Postquam primo a patre in arte pingendi eruditus est, studia Romae continuavit. Circa annum 1650 Venetiis consedit, ubi pictores Baroci Italici, qui "tenebrosi" vocabantur (ut puta Franciscum Ruschi, Ioannem Baptistam Langetti et Antonium Zanchi) cognitos habebat. Praeter picturas minores res mythologicas et biblicas demonstrantes post annum 1670 etiam plures tabulas altarium maiores confecit, quae in ecclesiis Venetiarum, territorii tum Venetiis subiecti (Terra firma dicti), Austriae et Bavariae inveniuntur.

Loth Venetiis officinam habuit; operis socii Loth mortuo stilum magistri sequentes imprimis in Bavaria, Austria et Bohemia laboraverunt. Inter discipulos maximos Ioannes Adam Weissenkircher et Ioannes Michael Rottmayr numerantur.
