Hypermestra[1] (Graece: Ὑπερμνήστρα) in mythologia Graeca fuit una ex 50 Danaidibus, filia maior regis Danai urbis Argorum.

Sola Danaidum coniugem Lynceum - unum ex 50 Aegypti filiis - etsi pater imperaverat nuptiarum nocte non necavit sive amore capta[2] sive quia virginitati eius pepercerat.[3]

Hypermestra a Danao ob contumaciam capta et accusata est. Ovidius Hypermestram catenis vinctam Lynceo litteras dare fecit (vide: Heroides), cui res gestas narrat fortunamque deplorat.

Eadem Argis accusata Venere defendente liberata est.[4] Forsitan causa tragoediae amissae Aeschyli argumentum fuit.[5] Gratias agens Hypermestra Aphroditae Nicephoro (Veneri victrici) statuam in Apollinis templo dedicavit[6] et Artemidi Peithoni (Dianae suasoriae) sanctuarium condidit.[7]

Secundum aliam traditionem Lynceus Danaum et cruentas Hypermestrae sorores necavit.[8][9][10]. Ex eo Hypermestra mater Abantis facta est et parens multorum heroum, ut puta Persei ac Herculis.[11]

Hypermestra Lynceusque Argis heroes in unico sanctuario culti sunt. Sepulcrum eorum prope Iovis Phyxii altare fuit.[12] Delphis statuae ab Argivis conditae in templo constitutae erant.[13]
