Dialectos

Dialectos[1] vel dialectus[2][3] (Graece διάλεκτος) est peculiaris loquendi ratio apud homines una eademque lingua utentes. Proprietates dialecti interdum idiomata appellantur, ut his ex verbis Baconianis apparet:

Nam et idiomata eiusdem linguae variantur apud diversos, sicut patet de lingua Gallicana, quae apud Gallicos et Picardos et Normannos et Burgundos multiplici variatur idiomate. Et quod proprie dicitur in idiomate Picardorum horrescit apud Burgundos, immo apud Gallicos vicinores.

De definienda dialecto

Constat dialecton non solum geographicam sed etiam socialem rem esse. Dialectos socialis etiam "registra"[4] (ut verbo mediaevali utamur) appellari potest.

Dialectos etiam res politica est. Quae cum ita sint, desunt vera indicia linguistica, quibus dialectos a lingua distingui possit. Sunt enim dialecti, quae inter se aegre aut minime intellegibiles sunt; et e contra, sunt linguae (sicut Suecica et Norvegica), quarum locutores facile inter se verba faciunt. Multae dialecti nostra aetate perire videntur, lingua publica praescripta victae. At periclitantur etiam multae linguae gravitate linguarum mundanarum depressae.

Adagium "Lingua est dialectus cum exercitu et classi" dialectum rem politicam esse significat.
