Carolus I Siciliae, natus anno 1227 et mortuus anno 1285, filius minor natu Ludovici VIII regis Franciae et Blanchae Castellae erat. Comes Andegavensis a rege Ludovico IX factus, Beatricem comitis Provinciae Raimundi Berengarii filiam heredemque in matrimonium duxit, propter quod comes Provinciae fit.

Inter septimam expeditionem sacram anno 1248 cruce signatus est.

Cum Manfredo contendit de Siciliae regno, quod Urbanus IV a prole Friderici II eripere quaerebat. Manfredo victo et necato, Carolus rex Siciliae fit anno 1266. Anno 1282, propter Panormitani populi seditionem ("Siculae vesperae" nuncupatam), Siciliam tamen amisit. Petro III Aragonensi, qui Manfredi gener erat, rege Siciliae facto, insula a Regno Neapolitano discessit etiamsi Caroli proles usque ad saeculum XV titulum regis Siciliae tulit.

Successor in regno Neapolitano fuit filius Carolus, secundus huius nominis. Capetiorum ramus, quem rerum gestarum scriptores Andegavensis nuncupant, a Carolo I ortus est.
