프로테아과(Proteaceae)는 프로테아목에 속하는 속씨식물과의 하나이다. 남반구에 분포하며, 약 80개 속에 1,600여 종을 포함하고 있다. 버즘나무과, 연꽃과와 함께 프로테아목을 구성한다. 가장 많이 알려져 있는 식물 속은 프로테아속(Protea), 뱅크시아속(Banksia), 엠보트리움속(Embothrium), 그레빌레아속(Grevillea), 하케아속(Hakea), 드리안드라속(Dryandra), 마카다미아속(Macadamia) 등이다.
어원
[편집]프로테아과(Proteaceae)의 모식속인 프로테아속(Protea)의 명칭은 그리스 신화에서, 갖가지 모습으로 둔갑하는 프로테우스 신의 이름에서 유래했다.
