신기어류(新鰭魚類)는 조기어강 하위 신기어아강(新鰭魚亞綱)에 속하는 어류의 총칭이다. 라틴어 학명 Neopterygii의 뜻은 '새 날개'이며 번역어인 新鰭의 뜻은 '새 지느러미'이다. 조기어강이 진화하는 동안 신기류는 아주 적은 변화를 했을 뿐이다. 이들은 페름기 말에 나타났다. 신기류는 그들의 선조들보다 재빨리 움직일 수 있었기 때문에 매우 성공적인 어류가 되었다. 신기아강의 비늘과 골격은 더욱 가벼워지는 방향으로 진화했고, 그들의 턱은 더욱 강력하고 효율적으로 변했던 것이다.
