수염고래과(표준어: 수염고랫과)에 속하는 종은 다른 고래보다 훨씬 크며, 8종을 포함하고 있다.[1][2] 가장 무거운 종인 대왕고래는 최대 190톤까지 나간 경우도 있으며, 심지어 수염고래과 중 가장 작은 편에 속하는 종인 쇠정어리고래도 9톤에 달한다.
