바리과(Serranidae)는 페르카목에 속하는 조기어류과의 하나이다.[1] 농어와 참바리류를 포함하여 65개 속에 약 450여 종을 포함하고 있다. 대부분의 종이 작고 일부는 10cm 이하지만, 자이언트그루퍼(Epinephelus lanceolatus)는 세계에서 가장 큰 조기어류 중의 하나로 몸길이가 2.7m, 몸무게가 400kg까지 자란다.[2] 바리과에 속하는 대표 종들은 전세계의 열대와 아열대 수역에서 서식한다.
