『ファンク・オデッセイ』（A Funk Odyssey）は、2001年にリリースされたジャミロクワイのスタジオ・アルバム[1]。
概要
[編集]- トビー・スミス(キーボード担当)がメンバーとして参加した最後のアルバム。
- リーダーのジェイ・ケイとスミスが共同作曲した曲が半分、ケイとロブ・ハリス(ギター担当)が組んで作った曲がちょうど半分ずつ程度入ったアルバムになっている(後述「収録曲」の「作詞作曲」の欄を参照)。
- 日本盤のみボーナストラックとして1998年のシングル「ディーパー・アンダーグラウンド」が特別収録されている。イギリス版ではこの曲は1つ前のアルバム「シンクロナイズド」に収録されていた。
- 訳6ヶ月かけて収録した[2]
- 作詞にあたり私生活をどの程度露出するかは難しい所ではあるものの、今の(2001年の)自分を正直に表したとケイは語った[3]。
背景
[編集]2001年1月にバンドリーダーであるジェイ・ケイとデニース・ヴァン・オウテンの婚約が破談になってしまった状況の中このアルバムは発売された(「ジェイ・ケイ」参照)。「成熟した内容にしたかった」「誰かとの(女性との)人生を考える自分や、子供が欲しい感情を出した」ことがコンセプトだと語っている[4]。
1998年夏に自宅敷地内に音楽スタジオを完成させた事も影響している。このスタジオにはエレクトロ系にアレンジできる機材を集めており、そのための電子音プログラマーも雇っていた[5]。自宅内のスタジオで収録すればレコード会社が簡単には入ってこれないため意見の介入がなくて良い面もあったそう[6]。

ピクチャー・オブ・マイ・ライフ (Picture of my life)
[編集]暗い詩がボサノバ調に歌われ「死」という言葉も歌われているが、歌詞を書いた日のその時の気持ちをその場で曲にしただけだと語られた(明るい気分の時もある)[7]。これを発売すれば悪意ある記事を書くマスコミもある事は予測できたが、そういうマスコミを信じるのではなく自分達の曲や詩を聴いてほしいと語った[7]。
