Il Kirghizistan (in kirghiso Кыргызстан?, Kırgızstan), in italiano anche Chirghisia, Kirghisia o Kirghizia, è uno Stato indipendente dell'Asia centrale. Confina con Cina, Kazakistan, Tagikistan e Uzbekistan; non ha sbocco al mare.

Dal 1936, con il nome di Repubblica Socialista Sovietica Chirghisa, fu una Repubblica federata dell'Unione Sovietica fino al 1991, anno in cui divenne indipendente dall'Unione Sovietica, dal 1992 è membro delle Nazioni Unite. La superficie è poco meno di 200 000 km², la popolazione ammonta a 5 334 223 abitanti (stima 2012).

Prende il nome dal popolo dei Kirghisi. La capitale è Biškek, chiamata Frunze durante il periodo sovietico, poiché è la città natale di un generale dell'Armata rossa, Michail Vasil'evič Frunze.
