Perbudakan di Jepang

Jepang memiliki sebuah sistem perbudakan resmi dari periode Yamato (abad ke-3 Masehi) sampai akhir periode Sengoku.

Perbudakan awal

Ekspor seorang budak dari Jepang tercatat dalam catatan sejarah Tiongkok abad ke-3, tetapi tidak jelas apa sistem yang dilibatkan, dan apakah hal tersebut merupakan sebuah praktik umum pada waktu itu. Budak-budak tersebut disebut Seikō (生口) (artinya "mulut yang hidup").

Perdagangan Portugis dalam budak-budak Jepang

Setelah Portugis pertama kali membuat kontak dengan Jepang pada 1543, sebuah perdagangan budak berskala besar di mana Portugis menjadikan orang-orang Jepang sebagai budak di Jepang dan menjual mereka ke berbagai tempat di luar negeri, termasuk Portugal itu sendiri, sepanjang abad keenam belas dan ketujuh belas.[1][2] Beberapa dokumen berkata bahwa perdagangan budak yang besar bersamaan dengan pertentangan melawan perbudakan Jepang.
