Lotte Reiniger (terlahir dengan nama Charlotte Reiniger, 2 Juni 1899 – 19 Juni 1981) adalah seorang sutradara asal Berlin-Charlottenburg, Kekaisaran Jerman (Jerman saat ini), yang dikenal sebagai pelopor karya film berbasis animasi siluet.[1] Salah satu karyanya yang terkenal adalah film animasi The Adventures of Prince Achmed yang dirilis tahun 1926.

[sunting | sunting sumber]Lotte Reiniger belajar tentang scherenschnitte, sebuah seni menggunting bentuk serta desain pada kertas dengan alat berupa gunting di Charlottenburger Waldschule [2]
Karier
[sunting | sunting sumber]Lotte Reiniger terkenal berkat film siluet yang dibuatnya [3]. Potongan kertas berisi gambar dan karton ia timbang dengan timah lalu digantung bersama sambungannya. Karakter yang tercipta menjadi semakin kompleks gerakannya. Karakter yang diciptakan Reiniger lalu dianimasikan dengan keterampilan yang sangat baik [3]. Selama 60 tahun perjalanan kariernya, lebih dari 70 film animasi siluet telah dibuatnya [2].
Film yang membuat Reiniger semakin dikenal yaitu Cinderella, Puss in Boots, Hansel and Gretel, serta The Adventures of Prince Achmed [2].
