Pada 17 September 2024, sekitar pukul 15:30 EEST, ribuan penyeranta genggam yang digunakan oleh para anggota Hizbullah, suatu partai politik dan milisi Lebanon, meledak secara bersamaan di Lebanon dan Suriah.[8][9][10][11] Badan intelijen Israel telah mencegat pengiriman penyeranta dan memasang bahan peledak di dalamnya, menurut sumber New York Times yang tidak disebutkan namanya.[12] Setidaknya 12 orang tewas dan lebih dari 2.750 orang terluka,[6][13][7] termasuk anggota Hizbullah dan warga sipil.[11][14][15] Seorang pejabat Hizbullah mengatakan kepada National News Agency bahwa peristiwa ini adalah "pelanggaran keamanan terbesar organisasi".[16]

Gelombang ledakan kedua terjadi di Lebanon pada tanggal 18 September.
