Kewarganegaraan Uni Eropa adalah kewarganegaraan yang diberikan kepada warga negara yang memenuhi syarat di negara anggota Uni Eropa.[1] Pemberian kewarganegaraan ini sesuai dengan Perjanjian Maastricht yang ditandatangani pada tahun 1992.[2] Perjanjian ini menjadi identitas hukum baru untuk membentuk aturan tambahan untuk kewarganegaraan bagi warga negaranya.[1] Setiap warga negara Uni Eropa akan memperoleh hak, kebebasan, dan perlindungan hukum kepada semua warga negaranya. Artinya setiap penduduk Uni Eropa akan sama di mata hukum dan bisa membawa kasus langsung ke Mahkamah Eropa.[1]
Warga negara Uni Eropa berhak untuk bergerak dan bekerja di seluruh wilayah Uni Eropa. Artinya setiap warga negara dari negara-negara anggota Uni Eropa bebas untuk mengangkut barang, menawarkan jasa, dan modal melalui perbatasan Uni Eropa tanpa biaya.
