James Albert Michener (New York, 3 Februari 1907).[1] adalah seorang pengarang Amerika, fiksi dan non-fiksi.[1] Ciri karyanya selalu di landasi riset mendalam dan kaya detail.[1] Menyebabkan sementara kritik menyatakan "berkepanjangan, lamban dan melelahkan", (antara lain The Sourse 1965, novel besar tentang Israel dari zaman prasejarah sampai sekarang).[1] Selama Perang Dunia II masuk dinas Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat, pengalaman ini memberi latar belakang untuk Tales of the South Pacific (1947), juga The Bridges at Toko- Ri (1953), Sayonara (1954), Hawai (1959]]), dan kumpulan cerpen Return to Paradise (1951).[1] The Bridge at Andau (1957) tentang pengungsian - pengungsian sesudah Revolusi Honggaria 1956, Iberia (1968), novel sejarah dan budaya Spanyol, Centennial (1974), fiksi tentang kota Colorado dari zaman geologi hingga sekarang.[1] Tales of the South Pacific mendapatkan hadiah Pulitzer.[1] Michener mengambil pekerjaan sebagai guru bahasa Inggris SMA di The Hill School di Pottstown, Pennsylvania.[2] Dari 1933-1936 ia mengajar bahasa Inggris di George School di Newtown, Pennsylvania, kemudian menghadiri University of Colorado Utara (yang dikenal sebagai Colorado State Teachers College) di Greeley, Colorado, di mana ia memperoleh gelar master.[2]
