हाइपरटेक्सट कंप्यूटर या किसी इलैक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरण में दिखाई देने वाला टेक्स्ट या पाठ है जिसका कि किसी अन्य पाठ से सन्दर्भ (हाइपरलिंक) जुड़ा रहता है, ताकि पाठक तुरंत उसतक पहुँच सकें। प्रायः ऐसा करने के लिए उसपर क्लिक किया जाता है या कुंजी दबाई जाती है। चालू पाठ के अलावा टेबलें, आकृतियाँ तथा अन्य प्रदर्शनात्मक युक्तियाँ भी हाइपरटेक्स्ट का काम कर सकती हैं। वर्ल्ड वाइड वेब की संरचना को परिभाषित करने में हाइपरटेक्स्ट मूल अवधारणा रही है।^[1] यह इन्टर्नेट पर सूचना साझा करने का एक सुगम और लचीला प्रारूप है।

उपसर्ग हाइपर- ग्रीक मूल के "υπερ-" से आया है, जिसका मतलब है ऊपर या परे। जो कि लिखित पाठ के रेखीय रूप की सीमा को पार करने का प्रतीक है। 1992 में, लेखक टेड नेल्सन, जिन्होंने 1963 में यह शब्द गढ़ा, ने यह लिखा:
