Trans-splicing

O trans-splicing ou trans-empalme é un tipo especial de procesamento do ARN mensaxeiro que se dá en eucariotas no que exóns pertencentes a dous transcritos primarios diferentes de ARN son enlazados polos seus extremos.

A diferenza del, o splicing "normal" ou cis-splicing procesa unha soa molécula. Por tanto, o trans-splicing orixina un transcrito final de ARN que procede de diversas transcricións da ARN polimerase no xenoma. Este fenómeno pode ser aproveitado para terapias moleculares para tratar produtos xénicos mutados.[1]

O trans-splicing pode ser o mecanismo que está detrás de certas fusións de transcritos oncoxénicas.[2][3]

O trans-splicing utilízano certos microorganismos, principalmente protozoos da clase Kinetoplastida para producir antíxenos de superficie variables e cambiar dun estadio do seu ciclo de vida a outro. O trans-splicing tamén se dá nos animais; por exemplo, no verme Caenorhabditis elegans é moi intenso.[4]
