Ruta fecal-oral

A ruta fecal-oral ou vía feca-oral (ou orofecal) é unha ruta de transmisión de enfermidades infecciosas nas que un patóxeno procedente das feces dun individuo hóspede pasa ao interior do corpo a través da cavidade oral.

Xeralmente hai pasos intermedios, ás veces moitos, nesta vía de transmisión, entre os que os máis comúns son:

  • auga para beber que estivo en contacto con feces e non foi tratada ou foi tratada inadecuadamente durante a súa depuración;
  • alimentos que foron manipulados con pouca hixiene e sufriron contaminación por feces;
  • tratamento de augas residuais pouco axeitado, xunto coa presenza de vectores como as moscas domésticas;
  • mala hixiene das mans despois de ter estado en contacto con feces ou con obxectos que estiveron en contacto con feces;
  • prácticas sexuais que implican un posible contacto con feces;

En modelos experimentais de roedores demostrouse a transmisión de Helicobacter pylori por esta ruta.[7]
