Suō (周防国, すおうのくに, Suō-no-kuni ou 周防, すおう) foi unha provincia histórica do Xapón, que estaba na rexión histórica de San'yōdō, nunha zona que hoxe forma a parte leste da prefectura de Yamaguchi, na rexión de Chūgoku, na illa de Honshū.
A capital da provincia estaba situada no territorio do concello actual da cidade de Hōfu. Hōfu (防府) significa a capital ou o goberno provincial (国府) de Suō (周防).
Suō limitaba coas provincias de Nagato (長門), Iwami (石見) e Aki (安芸).
Historia
[editar | editar a fonte]Foi fundada como 周芳国 (chamábase tamén Suō) no século VII, e na fin do mesmo século cambiábase o seu nome como 周防国. Había cinco distritos (Ōshima, Kumage, Tsuno, Saba e Yoshiki), no ano 721 o distrito de Kuga foi fundado da parte do distrito de Kumage.
