Na iconografía relixiosa cristiá, o termo pantocrátor aplícase para referirse a Deus pai omnipotente ou tamén a Cristo, como xuíz no Xuízo Final. O termo vén do grego pantokrátor -átoros, formado de pâs pantós, todo, e dun derivado de krátos, forza, poder, de onde o seu significado de todopoderoso. Na mitoloxía grega era un atributo de Zeus.

Representouse principalmente na arte bizantina e románica, na forma de Deus bendecindo ó espectador coa man dereita levantada; na man esquerda sostén o Libro dos Sete Selos (segundo a Apocalipse, cap. 5), cuxa apertura simboliza o comezo do Xuízo. Pode aparece-la figura completa, sentada no trono, ou só o busto. Cando representa a figura de Deus pai adoita mostra-lo fillo, Xesús, no colo.

Sexa como for, a figura inscríbese case sempre nun cerco oval en forma de améndoa, denominado mandorla, coas figuras dos catro evanxelistas ó redor formando o tetramorfo: Mateu (home), Marcos (león), Lucas (boi) e Xoán (aguia).

Nas igrexas cristiás pode aparecer esculpido no tímpano da portada ou pintado na bóveda da ábsida.
